With over 200 members, excellent topics, and all these monthly activities this a fun group to watch. You will learn a lot!

I am sure I left out some other fun events that happened this year. I did not even get a chance to mention all of the great video tutorials available on demand. It's been a great year at VOL.... Cheers!

Here are just a few of the highlights from the Virtual Online Learning Group in the year 2011.

In July the second anniversary party was held. A free membership was given away to a lucky winner!

In May the VOL Forum was launched. Where members can go to ask questions. You can find information on a load of topics from eBay, to Twitter to email marketing to Facebook, and more.

This summer the Power Listing Day was turned into a 48 hour event. Participate in PLD and you can boost sales. Make more end of the month sales by listing 1 week before month end. And get strong beginning of the month sales by listing items to end the first of the month. Hashtag #VOLPLD

In December the VOL Members YouTube Channel became available.

We now have a 2nd Power Listing Day

Thanks to the suggestion of our Forum supervisor at VirtualOnlineLearning.com,
Louise Sanchez of "Herbs-Crafts-Gifts" pointed out at a recent meeting that we needed to add a second day to our classic "Power Listing Day." The reason being that, the current PLD takes place 7 days before the last day of the current month, which allows eBay sellers to get ONE more sale on a 7 day listing and have it count as a sale for the current month.
Louise further explained that some sellers have reached their selling goals and would like to JUMP start the 1st of the next month SO, Day two of Power Listing Day has been born!

This will take place the day after the current PLD which means, a seven day auction will now show up on the FIRST of the next month! Members that participate be challenged to end the month with a BANG and jump start the new month with a Power Selling Kick-off!

To participate, visit the home page calendar and look for the POWER LISTING DAY dates. click the further info and there is a link to take you directly to the FORUM for further discussion AND to share a link to your eBay account along with your GOAL numbers. Some may set the goal to get 10 listings in while others may go for the gold, like our well known Virtualite Challenger : Cindy Sorely, owner of BubbaCanDance that has blown us all away with her 50+ listings during a Power Listing Day Challenge! Important #eBay Reminder

Important reminder: More exposure for your listings and new seller protection coming with Fall Seller Update--key deadlines approaching

We're writing to remind you of the recently announced Fall Seller Update scheduled to begin launching August 22. The updates require minimal changes to your selling practices--but be sure to take full advantage of increased search exposure and added seller protection. You'll also want to meet any upcoming deadlines so you're all set for smooth, profitable holiday selling.

Coming next month: 25 EXTRA characters in your title to draw more buyers to your listings!
Starting next month, you'll have additional characters--to include more keywords and descriptors to get your listings in front of more interested buyers. Be sure to start using all 80 characters in your listing titles as soon as they are available the first week in September.

New protection for your performance rating
We know you want to do the right thing for your customers--that's why eBay always encourages buyers to contact the seller before filing a Buyer Protection case. Starting August 31, if the buyer doesn't contact you before opening an eBay Buyer Protection case, and you act quickly to resolve it, the case won't be included in your performance rating. As always, respond to buyer issues promptly using eBay member-to-member email.

Offer a great return policy to drive holiday sales
Today's online buyers expect to have a reasonable timeframe for returns and the option of getting money back. As always, you may specify "no returns accepted" as your policy. But keep in mind, most sellers find that the increased sales they get with a confidence-inspiring return policy more than pays for itself. In 2012, whenever returns are accepted, a minimum 14 day window and a money-back option will be required. Starting in late August, a new "Money back or exchange" option will be available. Give yourself a competitive edge for the holidays with a great return policy that inspires buyer confidence--30 days is ideal.

Keep your buyers on eBay--for your protection and theirs
Buyers should be able to find everything they need to complete a purchase right in your listing--and if necessary, contact the seller right from eBay. Starting October 1, new listings and re-listings will be blocked if the description includes an email address or link that doesn't help buyers transact safely and efficiently on eBay.

One or more of your listings may have email addresses and/or non-compliant links--be sure to remove them from your listings and listing templates now before the October deadline. If you use a Certified Provider to list, allow plenty of time to work with your provider to ensure your listings are fully compliant with this policy by October 1.

Category and Item Specific updates
As always, changes to categories and item specifics are included with the rest of seller updates. Look for updates in Coins, Computers & Networking, eBay Motors Parts & Accessories, Consumer Electronics, Tickets, Collectibles, and eBay Motors Vehicles. Find out if your listings are affected.

Who's eligible?

On July 26, 2011, sellers who list in the Auction-style format will pay just a 1¢ insertion fee per item listed ("Promotion"). Only sellers whose accounts meet eBay's minimum seller performance standards are eligible. Please refer to the "What's Excluded?" section for more details. There is no limit on the number of listings that are eligible for this offer. This promotion applies to both eBay Stores subscribers and sellers who do not have an eBay Store subscription. Sellers who do not have an eBay Store subscription are still eligible to list Auction-style listings for free—up to 50 listings per month. Once the free insertion fees have been used, the 1¢ Promotional Rate will apply to eligible listings.

When is it?

This promotion starts on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at 00:00:01 PT (12:00 AM plus one second), and will end on that same day, at 23:59:59 PT (11:59 PM plus 59 seconds), for listings on www.ebay.com. For listings on www.ebay.ca, the promotion will begin at 12:00 AM plus one second, ET, on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, and end at 11:59 PM plus 59 seconds, ET, (the "Promotion Period").

What are the fees?

During the Promotion Period, insertion fees for listings in the Auction-style format will be 1¢ per item listed on the U.S. site, www.ebay.com, eBay Motors at www.eBayMotors.com (Parts & Accessories only), and eBay Canada at www.ebay.ca, as reflected in the fee table below. Listings created prior to July 26, 2011, which are scheduled to start during the Promotion Period, will be eligible to receive the Promotional Rate. Fall Seller Update delivers more buyers and new seller protection--with little need for change on your part

As we head into the holiday season, eBay is making unprecedented investments to bring you more buyers and ensure their expectations are met head-on. The second and final seller update for 2011 provides new ways for you to maximize your sales and profitability--without the need for significant changes to your listings or business practices.

25 EXTRA characters in your title to draw more buyers to your listings!
In early September, you'll have nearly 50% more space in your listing titles--25 additional characters--to include more keywords and descriptors to get your listings in front of more interested buyers.

New protection for your performance rating
We know you want to do the right thing for your customers--that's why eBay always encourages buyers to contact the seller before filing a Buyer Protection case. Starting in August, if the buyer doesn't contact you before opening a Buyer Protection case and you act quickly to resolve it, the case won't be included in your performance rating.

Keeping buyers on eBay
Buyers should be able to find everything they need to complete a purchase right in the listing--and if necessary, contact the seller right from eBay. Starting in October, sellers will not be able to submit a new listing or re-listing if the description includes an email address or link that doesn't help buyers transact safely and efficiently on eBay.

One or more of your listings may have email addresses or non-compliant links, so be sure to start updating these listings and listing templates now.

Meaningful return policy

  'Twas the night before Christmas, 
when all through the Net,
  There were hacker's a surfing. 
Geeks? Yeah, you bet.


  The e-mails were stacked by
 the modem with care,
  In hopes that St. Nicholas 
soon would be there.

  The newbies were nestled 
all snug by their screens,
  While visions of Java 
danced in their dreams.

  My wife on the sofa 
and me with a snack,
  We just settled down 
at my rig (it's a Mac).


  When out in the Web 
there arose such a clatter,
  I jumped to the site 
to see what was the matter.


  To a new page my Mac
 flew like a flash,
  Then made a slight gurgle. 
It started to crash!!

  I gasped at the thought 
and started to grouse,
  Then turned my head sideways 
and clicked on my mouse.

  When what to my wondering
 eyes should appear,
  My Mac jumped to a page
 that wasn't quite clear.

  When the image resolved, 
so bright and so quick,
  I knew in a moment
 it must be St. Nick!

  More rapid than mainframes, 
more graphics they came,
  Then Nick glanced toward my screen,
  my Mac called them by name;

  "Now Compaq! Now Acer!", 
my speaker did reel;
  "On Apple! On Gateway!" 
Santa started to squeal!

  "Jump onto the circuits! 
And into the chip!
  Now speed it up! Speed it up! 
Make this thing hip!"

  The screen gave a flicker, 
he was into my RAM,
  Then into my room 
rose a full hologram!

  He was dressed in all red, 
from his head to his shoes,

  The drive gave a whirl, 
as if it were pleased,
  St. Nick coyly smiled, 
the computer appeased.

  Then placing his finger 
on the bridge of his nose,

It's Another Blog Challenge at Virtual Online Learning

Today is the October Blogging Challenge for Virtual Online Learning and it's off to a fantastic start. Lots of great posts by those participating. For those of you wondering if I have nothing better to do than sit on Twitter and tweet out these posts, I'm really not "there". I had a feeling, that was right, that I would have a busy day of transcription, but didn't want to miss posting any blog posts for the challenge. It's one of the wonders of automation. I use a free program to automate the feed. I've used it for a while now and if you're not, you might want to consider it. Not only can you automate feeds, you will likely gain followers in the process. The program is Twitter Feed. It was a little time consuming to set all the feeds up for the challenge, but now that they are done, it will be a matter of activating them for the next one. Of course, first thing in the morning, I will disable the hashtag #VOLBC as it will no longer be applicable. I figure that should only take a few minutes to do. I definitely recommending that you take advantage of this free tool, if you use Twitter, Facebook, Hellotxt, Ping.fm, or Statusnet and set up some feeds. One of the great features is you can, with a single click, make them inactive or active, depending on your own preference. You even have the option of feeding more than one Twitter or Facebook account. Definitely worth the time it takes to set up or at least take a look.

Because there are so many great posts today, be sure and set aside some time to visit the blogs, tweet the blogs, "Like" the blogs, or leave comments. Each and every one of us appreciate it.

How Much Can I Earn

One of the the questions as an eBay consultant that I get asked on a regular basis, is " How Much Can I Earn ? In simple terms the answer is as much or as little as you want. Selling on eBay is like any other business, you need to buy low and sell high. While that is true you do need to factor in things like your ongoing costs such as fee's, packaging etc.

One of the exercises that I like to do with my clients, when I first sit down with them is to ask them,

@ How much do you need to earn this year to replace your salary. I then break this down in to a month, a week and then a day. By doing this it shows them in easy to understand terms what they need to sell.

@ Next I will take the product they are looking to make their living on, and find out the profit margins they have in it when they sell at Buy It Now prices.

@ Next I take off the eBay and PayPal fees, and any other costs involved.

@ What is left is the amount they make per unit sold. And in most cases it surprises them how much they need to sell.

Members of Virtual Online Learning signed up and did RSVP to take a challenge list items on eBay! Each member set their own goals and then are reporting in to give the results one by one!
